John Griffiths MS Highlights Newport’s Rising Role in UK Technology Sector
Newport is quickly establishing itself as a hub for innovation and opportunity, according to John Griffiths, MS.
The local economy is experiencing a surge in activity, with recent developments firmly placing the city on the UK’s technology map.
“It’s an exciting time to be living in the city, not just because of the major cultural investment being taken by Newport City Council, but also for our local economy,” said John Griffiths MS.
In a recent visit to KLA in Ringland, John Griffiths MS welcomed the company’s announcement to expand operations at Imperial Park.
The semiconductor firm’s growth is being hailed as a major boost for Newport, positioning the city as a key player in advanced technologies across the UK.
“Their growth and the semiconductor industry more widely is absolutely fantastic for our area. It is proof that Newport is becoming a key player in the future of advanced technologies, and is at the centre of the UK’s growing tech industry,” Griffiths added.
As the Member of the Senedd for Newport East, Griffiths emphasised the importance of ensuring that local residents benefit from these investments.
He highlighted the need for clear pathways into secure, well-paid employment that will support not only today’s workforce but future generations.
“These opportunities are not just for today, but for the next generations as well, something I know many families are thinking about as young people get their exam results this month,” he said.
With schools now on summer break, Griffiths encouraged families to make the most of Newport’s offerings while taking a well-earned rest.
Newport Live is providing a wide variety of summer activities, many free or low-cost, including sewing, skateboarding, welly walking, films, and Football for All.
He also praised the Welsh Government’s Food and Fun programmes, which are being run in schools across Newport and Monmouthshire. These initiatives combine fun, learning, and healthy meals, helping to support children and families during the school holidays.
Griffiths urged locals to explore Newport’s natural and cultural attractions, from Beechwood Park to Wentwood Forest, and highlighted new transport options.
The recently launched ‘45’ bus service now links Newport Bus Station with the Sports Village and the Wetlands, making access to leisure activities easier than ever.
“I also hope to see some familiar faces at Rodney Parade again this year, as we cheer on Newport County during the new football season!” Griffiths said.
Residents are reminded that John Griffiths MS remains available for assistance on issues spanning transport, schools, health, housing, rural and environmental concerns, and sport and culture.
