Ghislaine Maxwell Holds ‘Productive’ Meeting with US Justice Officials in Florida
In a surprising turn of events from across the pond, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a prison sentence linked to her involvement with the late Jeffrey Epstein, has held what her legal team described as a “productive” meeting with a top US justice official.
The encounter took place inside a federal courthouse in Tallahassee, Florida, where Maxwell sat down with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.
The discussions, reportedly lasting an entire day, come amid mounting political pressure in Washington surrounding the long-hidden Epstein files, an issue that has recently entangled former President Donald Trump.
Maxwell’s lawyer, David Oscar Markus, spoke to reporters outside the courthouse, offering limited but telling remarks.
“We had a very productive day today with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and Ghislaine Maxwell. First, we want to thank the deputy attorney general for being so professional with all of us and meeting with all of us,” Markus said.
He continued: “He took a full day and asked a lot of questions. And Ms Maxwell answered every single question.”
Though Markus declined to share specifics, he emphasised Maxwell’s openness throughout the exchange.
“She never invoked a privilege, never declined to answer. She answered all of the questions truthfully, honestly and to the best of her ability. And that’s all the comment we’re going to have today about the meeting. We don’t want to comment about the substance of the meeting for obvious reasons.”
Pressed on whether additional questioning was expected, Markus offered no clear response.
The timing of the meeting has stirred speculation. Maxwell’s subpoena arrived not long after intense public and political pressure mounted on Donald Trump to unseal documents tied to the Epstein case.
Trump, who has played both sides of the narrative surrounding Epstein and Maxwell, initially fanned the flames of conspiracy, only to backtrack on his pledge to release related files. That U-turn has rattled parts of his loyal MAGA base and reignited suspicions within US political circles.
With federal officials now actively engaging Maxwell and progressing on document releases, the political climate is heating up once again.
As news broke of Maxwell’s courtroom session, Trump himself was preparing to cross the Atlantic.
The former president is set to arrive in the UK today and will spend several days in Scotland, from 25 to 29 July. He is expected to meet both the Prime Minister and the Scottish First Minister, with visits to his golf resorts also on the agenda.
The visit coincides with growing unease among US and UK officials alike, as the Epstein files continue to cast a long shadow over Washington’s political elite.
Back in the US, Trump made headlines by visiting the Federal Reserve in Washington, inspecting renovation works while continuing his war of words with central bank chair Jerome Powell. Trump criticised the spending on the renovations and repeated his longstanding calls for interest rate cuts.
