Authorities have launched an urgent appeal following a chilling incident in Canary Wharf where a woman was reportedly forced into a van by two men. The alleged kidnapping, which took place just before midnight on 30 September, has prompted a major investigation.
Shocking late-night incident in Canary Wharf
Police were alerted after reports surfaced of a woman believed to be between 28 and 32 years old being forced into a white Ford Transit van on Millharbour Road, near the junction with Lighterman’s Road.
The disturbing incident occurred in the heart of Canary Wharf, a usually bustling but relatively safe area of East London.
A 42-year-old man was arrested on 1 October on suspicion of kidnapping in connection with the incident.
However, it’s still unclear whether he was one of the two individuals directly involved in the act. He has since been released on bail as investigations continue.
The identity and wellbeing of the woman remain unknown, fuelling growing concerns about her safety.
Detective Inspector Grant Stevens, who is leading the case, said: “We are keen to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and are concerned for the welfare of the young woman involved, who we believe is aged between 28 and 32 and been unable to identify.
Were you in or near Millharbour Road, E17 around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious, or do you have any CCTV or mobile phone footage that will assist us with our enquiries? If so, please come forward by calling 101 and referencing 01/8032774/25.”
Officers urge public to help piece together timeline
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam or phone footage from the area at the time. Local residents and late-night workers in the area are also being encouraged to check any private security cameras or doorbell footage.
Millharbour Road and the surrounding area, which is typically monitored due to high footfall and commercial presence, could hold vital clues.

Background: Canary Wharf on edge
This part of East London is known more for financial firms and upmarket flats than late-night crime scenes. But incidents like this spark real unease especially when key details, like the victim’s identity and condition, remain a mystery.
The van involved was described as a white Ford Transit, often used as a tow truck, which some witnesses initially mistook for a vehicle performing roadside assistance.
Authorities continue their hunt
Detectives are working around the clock to determine who the woman is, why she may have been targeted, and whether there’s any connection between her and the men involved.
With limited eyewitnesses so far, the case heavily relies on public assistance.
If you were near the scene or have any information, however small, you’re urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference 01/8032774/25. Alternatively, you can remain anonymous by contacting Crimestoppers.
