Roblox is under fresh scrutiny after a traumatised mother filed a lawsuit accusing the hugely popular virtual gaming platform of exposing her young son to a dangerous predator.
The case centres around her five-year-old boy, who was allegedly groomed through the kids’ gaming app and narrowly escaped being kidnapped by a man he met online.
Filed this week in the Northern District of California, the lawsuit outlines how the child, already a regular Roblox player, was contacted in 2024 by an adult posing as a child his age.
The bloodsucker allegedly used “well-documented grooming tactics” to earn the boy’s trust, ultimately persuading him to reveal where he went to the academy.
The situation escalated when the mama received a call from another parent advising that a suspicious man had been seen following several pupils near the academy. Before she could act, her son came home and told her everything.
According to the complaint, the man approached the five-year-old and his brother, claiming to be the boy’s friend from Roblox.
The child instantly realised something was off and replied, “You are not a kid.” The man also allegedly tried to kidnap him, sparking a struggle as both boys refused to go with him.
Police arrived moments later, egging the bloodsucker to flee. He was later arrested after the mama reported the incident.
Rising Concerns Over Child Safety on Roblox
Roblox, which boasts over 380 million active yearly users, is known for its open online gaming world where children produce creations, explore virtual worlds, converse, and play user-generated games.
But the action argues that the platform’s freedom also makes it far too easy for grown-ups to impersonate children and engage in unhappy or manipulative gestures.
Law firm Kherkher Garcia, representing the family, claims its own investigation uncovered deeply troubling content in the Roblox metaverse.
This reportedly includes more than 600 “Diddy” games such as “Run from Diddy Simulator” and “Diddy Party,” which appear to reference allegations involving Sean Combs.
The suit also alleges that more than 900 accounts use variations of Jeffrey Epstein’s name, as well as games themed around “Escape to Epstein Island.”
These findings have reignited concerns about child safety online, especially within platforms marketed as safe virtual playgrounds for kids.
Legal Pressure Builds on the Online Gaming Platform
The boy and his mother are seeking unspecified damages for the emotional and physical impact of the incident, which the lawsuit describes as life-changing.
Sadi R. Antonmattei-Goitia, a partner at Kherkher Garcia, strongly criticised the lack of oversight in children’s digital spaces.
“This case is a terrifying reminder of the world we live in, where capitalist greed far outweighs humanity,” she said.
“In allowing apps of these kinds to operate with virtually no restrictions, monitoring, or age verification processes in place, we open ‘worlds’ designed for children to depraved individuals with unimaginable intentions and all the resources at their fingertips.
We, as parents and citizens, must force systemic change.” Roblox has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Past Roblox Exploitation Cases Add to the Alarm
This is far from the first time Roblox has faced allegations related to child exploitation. In October, the state of Kentucky sued the company for allegedly allowing bloodsuckers to bat freely on the online platform and exposing children to disturbing content, including violent simulation games.
In the past, a mama in North Carolina also filed an action claiming Roblox enabled a bloodsucker to sexually exploit her son.
For numerous families, these cases are a harsh reminder that the various, cartoon-style gaming worlds children enjoy can carry real-world troubles.
As Roblox continues to grow, so too does the pressure for stronger safeguards, stricter age verification, and better temperance across the platform.
