France to Play Active Role in US-Led Gaza Ceasefire, Macron Confirms
French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged that France will take an active part at every stage of the US-led ceasefire action in Gaza.
“France will be involved in every stage of (US) President (Donald) Trump’s (Gaza ceasefire) plan, alongside the Arab partners it helped mobilize,” Macron declared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
I share the joy of the families and of the Israeli people as seven hostages have just been handed over to the Red Cross. My team and I had recently met their parents.

The French leader emphasized the importance of hostages being released, noting,” peace becomes possible for Israel, for Gaza, and for the region.”
On Monday morning, the International Committee of the Red Cross( ICRC) verified the inception of operations to free Israeli hostages from the Gaza Strip.
This is part of a broader ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian militant group.
The Israeli Defense Forces corroborated the news on X, stating that seven hostages had been safely released and were under escort by military and Shin Bet security forces.
Israeli media outlet Channel 12 reported that the hostages were handed over directly to ICRC teams.
Before this week, US President Donald Trump unveiled that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first stage of his 20-point ceasefire plan.
The original phase includes the release of all Israeli internees in exchange for roughly 2,000 Palestinian captives and a gradual Israeli troop pullout from Gaza, which came into effect on Friday.
Phase two of the plan envisions the establishment of a new governing body in Gaza, excluding Hamas, alongside the deployment of a multinational force and the disarmament of the militant group.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has been catastrophic. Since October 2023, Israeli strikes have claimed the lives of over 67,800 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, leaving much of the enclave uninhabitable.
With France now committing to a hands-on role, the international community is watching closely.
Macron’s involvement signals a renewed effort to bring both sides to the negotiating table and potentially pave the way for lasting stability in the region.
