Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is heading to London on Monday to meet with European leaders, as the war with Russia drags on and tensions with the United States linger.
The trip comes after a week of inconclusive addresses in Miami over a proposed peace plan to end the conflict, which has so far failed to produce any concrete results.
Ukrainian President Heads to London
The ongoing accommodations with the US have been fraught with frustration, particularly after President Donald Trump criticised Zelensky, claiming he hadn’t completely reviewed the American offer.
Despite this, Zelensky remains married to conversations aimed at changing the path to peace.
In London, the Ukrainian chairman will sit down with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, along with the German chancellor and French chairman, to review the progress in the peace negotiations.
This meeting highlights Zelensky’s sweats to strengthen ties with European allies and maintain support for Ukraine amid grim Russian attacks.
Russian Drone Strike in Sumy Injures Seven
Meanwhile, the conflict on the ground continues to pose a heavy risk. In the northeastern megacity of Okhtyrka, located in the Sumy region near the Russian border, at least seven people were injured when Russian drones hit an apartment block, according to the original Governor Oleh Hryhorov.
Two of the injured were admitted to the hospital, while the others received treatment and were discharged.
“The multi-storey building sustained extensive damage,” Hryhorov wrote on Telegram. Some residents were able to reach the basement after air-raid warnings, while emergency crews rescued others from the upper floors.
The Sumy region has been a frequent target since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, now approaching its fourth time, with near- diurnal shelling and drone attacks.
Strengthening European Ties After US Criticism
Zelensky’s London visit isn’t only a chance to push forward with peace addresses but also an occasion to reaffirm support from crucial European allies.
British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is also expected in Washington to meet US counterpart Marco Rubio, with the Foreign Office stating that both countries aim to “reaffirm their commitment to reaching a peace deal in Ukraine.”
For numerous spectators, these conversations are pivotal. With the Ukraine war showing no signs of ending soon, Zelensky is working to ensure that European nations remain united in backing Ukraine’s sovereignty while pressing for political results to halt the ongoing violence.
