Donald Trump Eyes Xi Jinping Meeting to Push for Russia-Ukraine Peace
US President Donald Trump has revealed plans to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict during his forthcoming addresses with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The advertisement came during a White House press conference, where Trump outlined his expedients for Beijing to ply influence on Moscow.
Speaking to intelligence officials, Trump was asked about the part China might play in bridling Russia’s conduct in Ukraine. In response, he stressed his desire for Beijing’s involvement.
“Well, I’d love China to help us out with Russia. We put very big sanctions on Russia. I think those sanctions are going to be, you know, they’re very biting. They’re very strong.
But I’d like to see China help us out. I’ve a good relationship with, as you know, President Xi. veritably good. We are going to be meeting. We will have a good meeting.
I’m pretty sure we’re going to have a great meeting. I think we’re going to do some good business. One of the things we’ll talk about is the Russia-Ukraine,” Trump said.
The US chairman also drew attention to the mortal cost of the war, noting that roughly 7,000 lives are lost each week.
“We’ll certainly be talking about that,” he added. Trump stressed that Xi, too, wants the conflict to end.
“He (Xi Jinping – ed.), he’d like to see that end, too,” he said. When pressed on whether the recent US sanctions might be overly harsh and potentially corner Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump dismissed the concern.
“No, I don’t think so… We’ll see what happens. I think he’d like to see it over with,” he responded.
The commentary gestures a renewed emphasis on US-China tactfulness as an implicit route to peace in Ukraine.
Judges suggest that Trump’s approach reflects both his long-standing business-style- style concession strategy and his desire to place the US as a middleman in global conflicts.
While the exact date of the meeting with Xi has not been verified, prospects are high that conversations will cover trade, security, and, critically, sweats to reduce conflict in Eastern Europe.
