A 13-year-old girl remains in critical condition more than 24 hours after a devastating house fire claimed the lives of her mother and three siblings in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The fire broke out at a residential property in Tillett Close, Stonebridge, shortly after 1:20am on Saturday, 24 May. Emergency services responded swiftly, with the London Fire Brigade leading the rescue operation.
The blaze tragically claimed the lives of 43-year-old Nusrat Usman, her 15-year-old daughter Maryam Mikaiel, and her two sons, Musa Usman, 8, and Raees Usman, 4. All four were pronounced dead at the scene.
A makeshift memorial has since formed near the property. Floral tributes now rest gently along a nearby wall, with a blue teddy bear placed among them — a poignant reminder of the lives lost.
Teenage Girl in Hospital
A teenage girl, believed to be part of the same family, continues to fight for her life in the hospital. Her condition remains critical as of Monday, 26 May.
Another woman, in her 70s, was also taken to the hospital following the fire but has since been discharged. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
Superintendent Steve Allen from the Met’s local policing team in North West London said: “Our thoughts go out to all those impacted by what has happened. Specialist officers are continuing to support the wider family who have asked for privacy at this deeply upsetting time.
Local officers are working closely with officers from the Specialist Crime Command on what continues to be a very complex investigation. I’d like to thank the members of the public, our first responding officers and colleagues from other emergency services for their efforts during this highly pressurised and distressing incident.
Equally, we appreciate this has affected the wider community who have been extremely supportive. You will see extra officers in the area during the coming days and some of the cordons will remain in place.”
Residents in the area remain shaken. The fire has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many expressing sorrow and disbelief. The outpouring of support has been immense, as neighbours and friends leave heartfelt messages and flowers at the site.
Police and fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze. No arrests have been made, and authorities have not ruled out any possibilities at this stage.
The tragedy marks one of the most heart-wrenching incidents the borough has faced in recent years. The community continues to rally around the grieving family as they await further updates.
