Deadpool Actor Takes on Role of Lord Voldemort in New Harry Potter Audio Series
A fresh wave of excitement has hit the UK Harry Potter fanbase with the announcement of a brand-new full-cast audiobook series, bringing JK Rowling’s beloved wizarding world to life in a unique way.
Among the impressive roster of 200 voice actors involved, Succession star Matthew Macfadyen, recently seen in the latest Deadpool film, has been confirmed as the voice behind the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort.
The series, set to launch soon on Audible, promises an immersive experience with “original music and real-world sound capture.” It’s not your typical audiobook; it’s designed to make listeners feel as though they’re right there at Hogwarts and beyond.
Joining Macfadyen is none other than Hugh Laurie, famed for his roles in House and Blackadder, who will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore, the wise and enigmatic Hogwarts headmaster.
Laurie expressed his excitement, saying: “I’m honoured to have been trusted with the keys to Albus Dumbledore, and thrilled to be able to take him around the track of this beautiful incarnation by Pottermore and Audible.
“I’m also deeply conscious of previous drivers Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, Jude Law and the iconic narrations by Jim Dale and m’colleague Sir Stephen Fry.
“Just below the horizon, but headed our way, is the rough beast John Lithgow, his hour come round at last. This is great company, and it’s a privilege to be among their number.”
This fresh take marks a departure from past Harry Potter audiobooks, which were famously narrated by single voices such as Jim Dale and Stephen Fry.
Instead, this series will feature a large cast, with newcomers like Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester, and Arabella Stanton voicing Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger in the first three books.
The final four books will feature Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan, and Nina Barker-Francis taking over the trio’s roles.
Fans took to social media soon after the announcement, expressing their enthusiasm. Comments like ‘loving the sound of this’ show there’s genuine buzz around the project.
This UK-based production blends star power with fresh talent, promising to bring the magical world to life in ways never heard before. With Lord Voldemort’s voice now confirmed as Matthew Macfadyen’s, expectations are high.
The Harry Potter series on Audible is poised to be a hit, especially for those who want to dive deep into the wizarding world with a fully immersive, cinematic soundscape.
