Machado, long seen as a symbol of defiance, has endured importunity, bans from office, and pitfalls, yet she has not stopped challenging Venezuela’s governance.
The award sends an important political signal, spotlighting Venezuela’s mortal rights extremity and strengthening global support for popular reform.
In the UK, human rights groups called the decision “a victory for courage and resilience.” The official Nobel Peace Prize ceremony will take place in Oslo on 10 December 2025.
