Russian Strikes Kill Two in Kyiv as Trump–Putin Summit Cancelled

Two people have been killed in Kyiv after overnight Russian strikes triggered fires across the Ukrainian capital, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The attacks came as a scheduled summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump was postponed, following Moscow’s rejection of a proposed ceasefire.

Kyiv’s military administration chief, Timur Tkachenko, told Reuters that debris from intercepted missiles and drones had sparked blazes in almost half of the city’s districts.

Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk described the assaults as “massive and ongoing,” saying energy installations and civil infrastructure were the primary targets.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported a casualty in the Dniprovskyi quarter and 10 people saved from a burning high-rise. Another death occurred in the capital.

In Kyiv 2 people have already been confirmed killed by russias mass attack that’s been ongoing all night.

Several residential buildings have been damaged, there’s fires in many of the districts.

Fires also erupted in Pecherskyi, Desnianskyi, and Darnytskyi sections, which host artistic milestones including the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra friary.

Outside the capital, regional governor Mykola Kalashnyk said a private home caught fire, injuring an elderly woman.

Further south in Zaporizhzhia, 13 people sustained injuries from overnight shelling. Central Poltava saw damage to key oil and gas facilities. More incidents in eastern regions show the widespread impact of recent attacks in Donetsk.

The White House verified on Tuesday that the Trump–Putin meeting would not go ahead. “There are no plans to reschedule,” said an elderly U.S. functionary.

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, Ukrainian authorities have constantly reported targeted attacks on energy infrastructure.

Moscow maintains that similar spots are licit military objects. Tuesday’s Russian strikes killed four people and left hundreds of thousands without electricity or running water.

Kyiv described the assault as part of Russia’s ongoing crusade to destabilize the country’s energy system before downtime.

The recent attacks emphasize the patient’s trouble with mercenary life in Ukraine and the challenges in seeking a political resolution amid rising pressures.
