iPhone 17 Launches Next Week: What to Expect from Apple’s release
Apple is gearing up for a major unveiling on 9 September at its Apple Park campus in California, where the long-awaited iPhone 17 series will finally make its debut.
The event, billed as a “special” showcase, has already stirred global buzz — and UK Apple fans are eager to see what’s in store.
Apple insiders have described the iPhone 17 as “the most ambitious in the product’s history.” And from what we know so far, that’s no exaggeration.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to replace the struggling Plus model. Slimmer, lighter, and strikingly thin at just 6.25mm, it could become the sleekest iPhone ever made.

Reports suggest a 6.6-inch display, 48MP camera, and 8GB of RAM, though its small 2,800mAh battery is raising eyebrows. To balance things out, Apple may even revive its MagSafe battery pack.
Meanwhile, the Pro Max could be rebranded as the iPhone 17 Ultra. Early leaks suggest a slightly bulkier frame to accommodate a larger battery, potentially Apple’s largest yet, at 5,000mAh.
Here’s the rumoured line-up:
- iPhone 17: 6.3-inch display
- iPhone 17 Air: 6.6-inch display
- iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3-inch display
- iPhone 17 Pro Max/Ultra: 6.9-inch display
Design & Colours
Expect changes that go beyond just slimmer bezels. Apple is said to be rolling out rectangular camera bumps with rounded corners across the board, with Pro models ditching the traditional square bump for a sleeker horizontal look.
Colours are also expanding. Black and Silver will remain, but new shades are tipped:
- Standard iPhone 17: Green, Light Blue, Purple, Steel Grey
- iPhone 17 Air: Light Blue, Light Gold
- Pro/Ultra models: Dark Blue, Grey, and even a bold Orange option
Mobile Performance
The entire iPhone 17 range is set to run on Apple’s latest A19 chips, with the Pro models getting the more powerful A19 Pro. Storage options are shifting too, the Pro Max/Ultra may drop the 128GB model, starting instead at 256GB and climbing to 1TB.
For displays, all four phones are rumoured to adopt 120Hz refresh rates with Always-On capability. Apple is also said to be working on scratch-resistant coatings and possibly nano-textured glass for premium variants.
Camera Upgrades
This year marks a leap for selfies: all models are tipped to sport 24MP front cameras. The Air gets a single 48MP rear shooter, while the Pro Max/Ultra could boast three 48MP lenses, wide, ultra-wide, and Tetraprism zoom.
Rumours of 8K video and optical zoom up to 8x on the Pro models suggest Apple is targeting pro-level photography and videography enthusiasts.
iOS 26 Overview
Apple isn’t just refreshing hardware. The iPhone 17 will ship with iOS 26, a rebranded system that introduces a “Liquid Glass” theme, new gaming features, and smarter spam controls.
iPhone users still on earlier versions can also benefit from refreshing their settings with the iOS 18.6 update, which delivers performance tweaks and stability improvements ahead of the bigger software leap.
Pricing in the market
Pricing whispers are mixed. While some predicted a hike, a recent JPMorgan report claims only the Pro model might see an increase, given its storage bump. Current projections suggest:
- iPhone 17: $799
- iPhone 17 Air: $899
- iPhone 17 Pro: $1,099
- iPhone 17 Pro Max/Ultra: $1,299
For British buyers, the focus will be on availability and pricing in sterling, once UK Apple Stores update post-launch. Historically, the UK market often sees higher price tags due to VAT and import adjustments.
Apple’s September event promises more than just another upgrade. With radical design changes, thinner builds, and a new operating system, the iPhone 17 could mark a turning point in the iPhone’s 17-year history.
