Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones Back on Screen After Summer Hiatus Amid Personal Ups and Downs
Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones have returned to the small screen, delighting fans after a summer break that saw them reportedly “cool off” their romance.
The BBC presenters reunited on Monday for Morning Live, marking Gethin’s first appearance since the recent passing of his father.
Both were spotted arriving with smiles, coffees in hand, ahead of filming. Helen, 42, opted for a long brown buttoned dress, while Gethin kept it casual in pale blue t-shirt, black trousers, and a rucksack.
BBC Breakfast hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent announced the show’s return with a playful jab at the duo. “We have a true sign now that summer is over,” Jon said. “Morning Live is back!”

Gethin responded warmly: “It’s good to see you.”
The pair had previously said goodbye to viewers in July, explaining that they would be “taking a break for a few weeks,” a standard summer practice. Leading up to their comeback, the hosts teased their return on social media.
Fans were quick to respond, with one commenting: “Yay!! Record it every day to watch when home from work, such a valuable show with lots of great tips on everything, health, money, fitness, cooking, travel what’s not to love. Welcome back I’ve missed you all.”
Their return comes shortly after reports that Helen and Gethin decided to step back from their romantic relationship. It also follows the sad news of Gethin’s father passing away after a long illness.
Gethin shared a poignant Instagram post showing him smiling with his dad in hospital. In the post, he wrote:
“Wales defeated England. Hymns and Arias with dad last night, before he left us this morning.”
He continued, reflecting on his father’s final moments: “The most perfect, peaceful end. Welsh hymns playing, and the grandsons on speaker phone saying goodbye.”
Gethin also highlighted his dad’s enduring humour and love for classical music, even during his illness: “Dad was poorly for a while, he put up a good fight, incredible really.
It was so nice to see his dry humour, the importance of faith and his love for classical music shine through at the end.”
He shared how his father had left a lasting impression on the local community as an educator: “Every day I’ve been at the Heath Hospital in Cardiff, someone would stop me and ask me about dad. He probably taught them at some point.
He made a big impact on education in these parts over a long period of time. He was strict and direct, always reasonable. A teacher for 40 years, a headteacher for 28!”
Gethin concluded by expressing gratitude to the NHS: “Amazing”, he wrote, in reference to those who cared for his father.
With their return to Morning Live, fans can once again enjoy the dynamic duo, even as they navigate personal milestones and challenges.
