Atlético de San Luis vs Rayados: A Night of Drama, Tension and Familiar Faces
Rayados grabbed their first win of the Apertura 2025 campaign with a 1–0 victory over Atlético de San Luis, in a match steeped in narrative and emotional undertones.
The win wasn’t just another three points—it was a reunion, a return, and for some fans, a bitter reminder.
Spanish coach Domenec Torrent returned to the Alfonso Lastras Ramírez Stadium, not as the head of San Luis, but leading their rivals Monterrey. And he didn’t come quietly.
Though the match marked San Luis’s home debut of the season, it was Rayados who walked away smiling. Notably, former San Luis star Germán Berterame delivered the decisive blow in the 41st minute—against the very team where he once shone brightest.
“Germán Berterame convirtió el tanto de la victoria, al minuto 41 y tras un contragolpe, Sergio Canales desbordó por la central para ceder el esférico al delantero argentino, quien al estar frente a Andrés Sánchez, no dudó en rematar y firmó el gol.”
It was poetic. Painful for the home crowd. Powerful for Rayados. Despite having been one of the most efficient coaches in Atlético de San Luis’s recent history, Torrent’s return was met with hostility.
His name echoed across the stadium—but not with cheers. “Cuando el sonido local mencionó el nombre de Domenec Torrent en las alineaciones del partido, los abucheos en el Alfonso Lastras Ramírez se hicieron presentes.”
This reaction wasn’t limited to Torrent. Several former San Luis players—Ricardo Chávez, Luis Reyes, and Berterame—also returned donning the Rayados kit.
And for Berterame, it wasn’t just a goal. It was his fifth against his old side, a painful statistic for the home support to digest. After all, this is the same man who won the Apertura 2021 Golden Boot while wearing red and white.
Depends who you ask. Berterame’s composed finish earned him the match-winner badge. But for San Luis fans, he played the part of the villain—a twist worthy of any sports drama.
“Germán Berterame se convirtió en el héroe de Rayados para este partido… también fue el villano del encuentro, debido a la historia que une al delantero con la plaza tunera.”
Rayados settled in after the goal. Their play tightened, confidence surged, and they shut down every spark San Luis tried to light, particularly dangerous attackers like Sebastien Salles Lamonge and João Pedro were effectively neutralised.
San Luis must regroup. Their next stop? A daunting away fixture against Chivas, just before the Liga MX pauses for the Leagues Cup.
As for Rayados, their home debut is finally on the horizon. They’ll host Atlas at the Estadio BBVA, with fresh turf laid ahead of the World Cup works. Two away games in a row? No problem for Torrent’s men.
