Apple to Embed GPT-5 AI into iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26 – September Rollout Expected
Apple is gearing up for a major September push. Alongside the hotly anticipated iPhone 17, the company will release iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26. The big talking point? The integration of OpenAI’s formidable GPT-5 into Apple Intelligence.
This isn’t just another software tweak. It’s a leap forward in how Apple devices think and respond. Siri and other AI-driven features are about to feel smarter, faster, and much more intuitive.
The GPT-5 model, revealed only recently, boasts sharper reasoning, advanced coding skills, more natural voice interaction, and even the ability to process video content.
As reported by 9to5Mac, Apple is set to drop its current GPT-4o for these more complex, wide-ranging tasks. “This upgrade is expected to bring a considerable boost to how Siri and other Apple services respond to more sophisticated user requests.”
Right now, Apple Intelligence taps into GPT-4o for certain jobs, summarising documents, crafting messages, answering via Siri, and identifying objects through the camera. GPT-5 will dial those capabilities up several notches. Same privacy promise, more AI muscle.
Apple says ChatGPT requests will have IP addresses hidden and won’t be stored by OpenAI. “Users who opt to link their OpenAI accounts to Apple Intelligence will gain access to additional features,” though they’ll need to follow OpenAI’s data rules.
OpenAI has also rolled out two new open-weight AI models, one optimised for Apple Silicon Macs, sparking speculation about offline AI processing in the future.
Given OpenAI’s own progress in PhD-level coding abilities, the potential here is huge. Apple hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but it’s an intriguing signpost.
And GPT-5 isn’t the only arrival in September. Live Translation will land, enabling instant language translation in FaceTime, Messages, and phone calls. Visual Intelligence will make it easier to identify and interact with on-screen content across apps.
However, there’s a catch, only those who enable ChatGPT on their devices will unlock the full GPT-5 experience.
For Apple, GPT-5 marks another milestone in a year of bold changes. From major AI upgrades to operational decisions such as closing several stores outside China, the company is clearly recalibrating its global strategy. For customers, though, all eyes are on September, when these new AI features finally land.
