Sunderland are closing in on one of their most exciting signings in recent memory, Armand Laurienté. The French forward, currently with Italian side Sassuolo, is reportedly set to arrive in England within hours.
That’s according to French outlet Le Parisien, which suggests the deal is all but done.
The 26-year-old had a standout season in Italy’s Serie B, firing Sassuolo back into the top flight with 19 goals and 6 assists. His blistering form earned him the Best Player award in the division and sparked interest from several European clubs. But it’s Sunderland who have acted fastest.
If all goes to plan, Laurienté will be reunited with two familiar faces in the North East. His former boss, Régis Le Bris, now manages the Black Cats. And ex-Lorient teammate Enzo Le Fée, fresh off a permanent switch, is already on the books at the Stadium of Light.
“Laurienté was instrumental in Sassuolo’s immediate return to Serie A, scoring 19 goals and providing 6 assists in the Italian second tier last season.”
The winger joined Sassuolo from Lorient back in 2022 and has made 84 appearances for the Neroverdi since. Known for his pace, trickery, and eye for goal, he could be just the spark Sunderland need ahead of their Premier League push.
The transfer, orchestrated by sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, is the latest in a busy summer for the Black Cats. The club has already brought in Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Simon Adingra, Chemsdine Talbi, and Reinildo Mandava.
Now, Laurienté looks set to be the next headline addition. “A full agreement between Sunderland and Sassuolo is now reportedly close, and the transfer could be finalised swiftly.”
Big moves. Big names. And a big ambition from Sunderland. The new season can’t come soon enough.
