Bawdy Birthday Card Claim Sparks Trump’s Legal Fury at Wall Street Journal
Former President Donald Trump has announced he intends to sue The Wall Street Journal, News Corp., and Rupert Murdoch over a sensational report claiming he sent a bawdy birthday card to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The Journal alleged that Trump penned a card for Epstein’s 50th birthday, featuring a sketch of a naked woman and the typed message: “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”
Trump’s reaction? Pure outrage. “I never wrote a picture in my life. I don’t draw pictures of women,” he told the outlet in response to the article. “It’s not my language. It’s not my words.”
Now, the former president says he’s done talking and ready to take action. In a heated Truth Social post on Thursday night, Trump declared his intention to launch a lawsuit.
“The Wall Street Journal, and Rupert Murdoch, personally, were warned directly by President Donald J. Trump that the supposed letter they printed by President Trump to Epstein was a FAKE and, if they print it, they will be sued,” the post read.
He claims that even after direct warnings from both himself and his communications director, Karoline Leavitt, the Journal’s editor, Emma Tucker, chose to run the story.
“Emma Tucker didn’t want to hear that. Instead, they are going with a false, malicious, and defamatory story anyway,” Trump wrote.
He didn’t stop there. Referring to the newspaper as a “Disgusting and Filthy Rag,” Trump noted that he had previously beaten major outlets like ABC and CBS in defamation battles.
“President Trump has already beaten George Stephanopoulos/ABC, 60 Minutes/CBS, and others, and looks forward to suing and holding accountable the once great Wall Street Journal,” he continued.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Trump has been tied to Epstein through eyebrow-raising claims. A previous report explored how the two were linked by another alleged risqué birthday note, one that also stirred headlines for its suggestive tone and mysterious origins. The timing of the report adds fuel to the fire. Tensions are already high as political pressure mounts over the U.S. Justice Department’s controversial handling of the Epstein case.
At a press briefing earlier in the day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt tried to clarify the president’s recent claim that the Epstein files were a “hoax.” She explained that Trump meant Democrats were now demanding transparency despite historically ignoring the issue.
“The President is referring to the fact that Democrats have now seized on this as if they ever wanted transparency when it comes to Jeffrey Epstein,” Leavitt said. “Which is an asinine suggestion for any Democrat to make.”
Meanwhile, the backlash and mockery have come from both sides of the aisle. Republican Vice President JD Vance didn’t mince words.
“Forgive my language, but this story is complete and utter bullshit,” he said. “Does anyone honestly believe this sounds like Donald Trump?”
Democrats, on the other hand, took to social media with sarcasm. California Governor Gavin Newsom posted Trump’s quote: “I never wrote a picture in my life,” alongside a 2019 article showing a sketch Trump had drawn of the Manhattan skyline.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul chimed in with a jab of her own: “What other ‘wonderful secrets’ are Republicans hiding? Release the files.”
As the legal dust begins to rise, all eyes are on what comes next. If Trump follows through, this could become one of the most publicised media lawsuits of the year.
