Tottenham Transfer Interest in Bournemouth Striker Semenyo£65m Release Clause Could Shape Semenyo’s Future

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo has put himself in the limelight once again, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly among the clubs keeping a close eye on the Ghanaian forward ahead of the January transfer window.

Semenyo, 25, has formerly established a strong connection with one implicit Spurs teammate, Mohammed Kudus, making the prospect of a move indeed more interesting.

The striker first surfaced on Spurs’ radar during the summer, alongside interest from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool. At the time, Bournemouth were reported to have slapped a £70million price tag on him.

Rather than leaving, Semenyo committed his future to the Cherries by signing a new contract running until 2030. He has wasted no time in proving his worth, contributing to nine pretensions in just 11 league appearances so far this season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur strengthened their attack in the summer with the £55million appearance of Mohammed Kudus, a player Semenyo knows well from transnational duty.

The two Ghana internationals have participated in the pitch in 25 of Semenyo’s 32 caps since his first call-up in May 2022.

Their rapport was evident during the September international break, when Semenyo teased Kudus about Spurs’ 1-0 defeat to Andoni Iraola’s team.

In a social media clip, he asked: “Kuku, my boy, how was the game on Saturday? Let me go ask him how the game was.”

Approaching Kudus, he added: “How was the game on Saturday, bro?” Kudus, clearly caught off guard, replied: “It was good,” while Semenyo laughed and repeated the 1-0 scoreline.

£65m Release Clause Could Shape Semenyo’s Future

Reports from The Athletic suggest Semenyo’s new Bournemouth contract comes with a £65million release clause, which could open the door for a January move.

Clubs interested in subscribing to him would need to spark the clause by a set deadline to give the Cherries time to find a replacement. Specifically, this clause will remain valid in unborn transfer windows.

Bournemouth have formerly seen several crucial players depart over the summer, including defenders Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez.

While Semenyo could follow in their steps, the forward insists he won’t let transfer enterprise distract him from his performances.

Speaking earlier this month, he said, “I don’t think about it too much. I try to stay present as much as I can.”

With the January window approaching, all eyes will be on Semenyo as clubs weigh up whether to meet his release clause, and whether the striker’s future might eventually lie down from the south seacoast.
