Amazon has officially brought the Stargate franchise back into action, commissioning a brand-new series for Prime Video.
The announcement, confirmed by Variety, marks a major revival for one of sci-fi’s most recognisable universes and sets the stage for a fresh chapter supported by both returning creatives and modern production backing.
Amazon Revives the Stargate Franchise
Amazon, MGM Studios and MGM Television are steering this new design, aiming to mix long-standing addict appeal with a fresh liar approach.
At the centre of the reanimation is Martin Gero, a stager of the ballot who began his TV career within the Stargate world twenty years ago.

Gero returns as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, roles that firmly position him as the guiding force behind this new adaptation.
“Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a Story Editor on Stargate: Atlantis. I spent five years at the franchise working across all three series.
Stargate taught me everything about making television; it’s written into my DNA. I’m beyond thrilled that Amazon MGM Studios has entrusted me with guiding this incredible franchise into its next phase,” Gero said in a statement.
He also shared a message for fans who have kept the universe alive: “For those who’ve kept the gate active through conventions, rewatches, and unwavering faith, this one’s for you. And for those that are new to our world, /I promise you’re in for something extraordinary.”
Veterans Join the New Stargate Reboot
The forthcoming series reunites several well-known names from Stargate history. Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, the creative duo behind the original 1994 film, return as administrative directors, tying this new chapter back to the ballot’s roots.
Directors Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures are also on board, while iconic Stargate television producers Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi join as consulting directors, furnishing durability that long-time suckers will drink.

The Stargate macrocosm began with the 1994 film starring Kurt Russell and James Spader, ultimately expanding into the monstrously successful Stargate SG-1, which ran for a decade.
