Westminster Bridge Reopens After Emergency Closure Over Welfare Concerns
Westminster Bridge, one of London’s most recognisable milestones, has restarted following a temporary closure due to enterprises for the man’s weal.
Police closed the A302 ground in both directions shortly after 10 am, sparking business detentions across central London.
Ambulances and fire crews were also stationed at the scene, adding to the dislocation. The ground restarted at around 12.30 pm.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told: “Police are currently on Westminster Bridge following concerns for the welfare of a man.
Officers were called at 10:12hrs on Wednesday, 8 October, and are now in the process of speaking to the man. The bridge is currently closed to traffic, and we ask people to avoid the area at this time.”
Social media users quickly picked up on the scene. One wrote on X: “Ambulances, police, and fire crews all over Westminster Bridge. Bridge closed. Can’t do right at the end of Victoria Embankment either.”
The London Fire Brigade confirmed its involvement. A spokesperson said: “We are currently assisting emergency service colleagues and have three fire engines, two fire rescue units and our fire boat in attendance.”
The incident briefly brought the bustling Westminster area to a standstill, prompting the nippy response of emergency services.
Commuters and excursionists were advised to use alternative routes while authorities managed the situation.
Westminster Bridge remains a vital roadway over the River Thames, linking Westminster and Lambeth.
