Zverev and De Minaur Keep Turin Dreams Alive at China Open
Alexander Zverev and Alex de Minaur have taken a decisive step toward securing spots at the ATP Tests in Turin after strong opening-round triumphs at the China Open in Beijing.
Both players looked sharp, showing why they’re serious contenders as the season nears its climax.
Third seed Alex de Minaur impressed with a commanding 6-4, 6-0 win over China’s Buyunchaokte in the opening round.

“This result adds his collection of wins to 32 matches on the hard field this season,” signalling the Australian’s consistency and form on hard courts.
The 24-year-old, ranked eighth in the ATP Live Race to Turin, is chasing a second ATP Finals appearance after debuting in 2024.
He will next face France’s Arthur Rinderknech, who advanced as a lucky loser after beating David Goffin 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the main draw.
“The Australian is eyeing his second appearance at the ATP Finals after debuting in 2024.”
Meanwhile, second seed Alexander Zverev moved through with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Lorenzo Sonego. “This victory extends Sonego’s unbeaten record to 6-0 in head-to-head meetings.”
The two-time ATP Finals champion is now third in the Live Race standings and looks set for another deep run.
Zverev will take on Corentin Moutet, fresh off a 6-4, 7-5 win over Tallon Griekspoor. The Frenchman, ranked a career-high 37th, has been in strong form this season.

Zverev has also been impressive in recent months, as seen when he ended Popyrin’s run in Toronto.
“The two-time ATP Finals champion has now moved up to third in Live Race and will face Corentin Moutet in the second half.”
Czech youngster Jakub Mensik claimed a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Miomir Kecmanovic, moving him to 18th in the Live Race.
“Despite being 1.115 points behind De Minaur, Mensik is optimistic that he can continue to add points towards the end of the season.” He now faces Arthur Cazaux, who survived a tough three-setter against Shang Juncheng.
In a shock result, Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, fresh from a Hangzhou triumph, fell 6-3, 6-2 to Adrian Mannarino. “Statistics show Bublik scored only three aces and failed to convert three break points of his.”
Mannarino will face Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, who outlasted Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in a marathon 7-6(3), 6-7(4), 6-4 match. Musetti is currently seventh in the Live Race and chasing his first ATP Finals berth.
“Musetti, who is in seventh position in Live Race, is aiming for his debut at the ATP Finals and is trying to catch up with compatriot Jannik Sinner, who has already confirmed his ticket to Turin.”
With the ATP Finals looming, every match in Beijing carries weight. Zverev and de Minaur’s wins have strengthened their chances, but competition is fierce, and nothing is guaranteed.
The China Open runs until 1 October 2025, offering key ranking points and a prize of US $751,075 for the singles champion.
