Venus Williams Vows to Keep Playing After US Open 2025 Women’s Doubles Exit
Venus Williams, at 45, is not ready to hang up her racket just yet. The American tennis legend confirmed she plans to keep competing, even after her doubles run at the US Open 2025 came to a sharp halt in the quarter-finals.
Partnering Canada’s Leylah Fernandez, Williams bowed out in straight sets, falling 6-1, 6-2 to the formidable top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend.

It was a tough defeat, but Williams was quick to highlight the positives from her New York campaign.
After returning to the professional circuit only in July following a lengthy 16-month layoff, the seven-time Grand Slam singles champion showed she still has fire in her game.
“If there is an opportunity for me to play, then hopefully I can get back somewhere this year,” said Williams, who entered the singles, doubles and mixed doubles draws through wild cards.
She admitted her comeback had presented new hurdles: “What I’m proudest of is that it’s not easy to come off the bench. I have never had a layoff that long. It brought new challenges that I wasn’t ready for in so many ways.”
When asked if her return had reignited her passion for the sport, Williams smiled: “I was never out of love with the game.
I never had to think about if I loved the game. I was always playing, so it’s part of my DNA. But clearly to be out here grinding at this point, there has to be a little love, right?”
Williams’ presence at the US Open 2025 has been one of the tournament’s emotional highlights. A pioneer of women’s tennis, she has defied both age and injury to remain on the sport’s biggest stages.
Fans in New York greeted her warmly throughout the competition, proof that her name still carries immense weight in the game.
Her message is clear: she isn’t done yet. With opportunities and fitness permitting, Williams intends to stretch her career further, continuing to inspire a new generation of players.
Elsewhere in New York, the men’s draw is also heating up, with Novak Djokovic securing a semi-final place in another thrilling chapter of his career.
As the US Open edges closer to its climax, the exit of Venus Williams from doubles may mark the end of one run, but certainly not the end of her story.
