UK Hot Weather Forecast: Sizzling 31C Heatwave to Return as August Approaches
The UK hot weather forecast is turning up the heat again, with dark red weather maps suggesting a blistering 31°C surge is just around the corner.
After a stretch of soggy, miserable days, it looks like summer is clawing its way back. Just in time for August, high pressure is building across the southern half of the country, and it’s bringing the sunshine with it.
According to WX Charts, temperatures could rocket by Tuesday, 5 August, with parts of London, the South East, and East of England all tipped to hit a sweltering 30C to 31C.
Counties like Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Hampshire, Dorset, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire are all in line for the heat.
Even Somerset, further west, could join the heat party, nudging 30C during the afternoon hours.
There’s recent precedent for this kind of spike, as the country just experienced a short but intense burst of heat, with temperatures climbing above 30°C for three days straight.
The Met Office is optimistic too. Their outlook for 29 July to 7 August suggests a mix of conditions but highlights an increasing trend toward dry, sunny spells, especially across southern and eastern parts of the country.
“A weather regime dominated by westerly winds is likely at first. This will likely bring rain and showers at times, interspersed with periods of more settled weather.”
“The north and west will most likely be the focus of any wetter and windier weather, where there may be some prolonged spells of rain at times. The highest chance of drier and sunnier weather is expected across the southern and eastern parts of the country.
“Through the period, high pressure may start to have greater influence as it builds northeast across the country. This is bringing more prolonged settled spells to many areas.
“Breeziest conditions across the north of the country. Temperatures generally near average, though with some warmer spells likely.”
Looking further ahead, 8 to 22 August, there’s more good news. The Met Office indicates a shift toward longer-lasting dry and bright weather, once again favouring the southern and eastern regions. There’s even talk of “very warm or hot” conditions during this time.
It’s a welcome shift, especially after what’s been a wild ride of weather in recent weeks. July opened with scorching highs of 35.8C in Faversham, Kent, the third heatwave of the early summer. But that fiery start didn’t last.
Since then, the jet stream dipped south, flipping the script entirely. Torrential downpours, thunder and lightning, flash floods, and even a mini tornado in County Durham hit parts of the UK.
With the new forecast showing brighter skies ahead, it’s time to dust off the sunglasses again and maybe prep the barbecue.
