A 65-year-old woman is fighting for her life after a shocking hit-and-run incident in Lewisham late last night.

Emergency services rushed to Southend Lane, near the Lidl supermarket in Bellingham, shortly after 10.10pm on 31 October, following reports that a woman had been hit by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene, leaving the woman severely injured on the roadside.

She was rushed to the hospital, where she remains in a critical condition more than 12 hours after the incident. Her identity has not yet been released, though her family have been informed.

“If you were on Southend Lane or the local area at the time of the collision, please look back to see if you remember anything. This callous incident has left a woman in a life-threatening condition. Our thoughts are with her family at this worrying time.

We are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have dashcam footage,” said Detective Inspector Paul Jackson of the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

The Metropolitan Police have launched a full investigation and are urging witnesses to come forward. Officers are particularly interested in speaking with drivers who may have captured the moment on dashcams as they travelled through Southend Lane around the time of the collision.

So far, no suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made. Police remain hopeful that public assistance will prove vital in tracking down the motorist responsible.
