Will Hughes’ new Crystal Palace contract has been officially announced, securing his future at Selhurst Park until the summer of 2027. The dependable midfielder has signed fresh terms with the club, marking another milestone in his solid tenure with the Eagles.

Having joined Palace from Watford in 2021 for a reported £6 million, Hughes has since become a key part of the squad, making 115 appearances across competitions. His latest contract extension arrives during a season where he’s played a crucial role in the side, stepping up admirably amidst injuries to midfielders Adam Wharton and Cheick Doucoure.

The new deal ensures that the 29-year-old will remain a central figure in Palace’s midfield plans until the end of the 2026–27 campaign, by which point he will be 31 years old.

Glasner Welcomes Midfield Stability

Reacting to the news during a press conference on Tuesday, Palace boss Oliver Glasner praised Hughes’ value to the team: “It’s not a surprise for me!” the manager joked. “It’s good. He’s had an excellent season for us. He’s very experienced. He’s a more old-school guy, who talks with all the others and gives a very good energy in the locker room.

Also, his football, his passing, his fighting spirit are great, so I’m really pleased that we could extend his contract. He’s an excellent passer. His pre-orientations are a little bit similar to Adam [Wharton]. He’s also a great fighter and brings a lot of good energy into the squad.

He has five assists and his set-plays have improved massively. Also, he’s in the top ten of minutes played for us this season, so it was clear that we want to extend his contract. From his side, he has been here for many years now, he loves Palace and being at this club. He is a very important player for us.”

The announcement of Will Hughes’ new Crystal Palace contract has been met with delight by the player himself, who expressed his gratitude and excitement for the seasons ahead: “I’m extremely happy to sign a new contract. I’ve really enjoyed my time here, so I’m delighted to extend it by a couple of years in what’s a really good moment as an individual and as a team collectively.”

Palace Chairman Steve Parish also spoke highly of Hughes’ importance within the club, noting his leadership both on and off the field: “In addition to being an important player in our squad, Will exemplifies the hard work, humility, and humour – of our football club.

He is a leader both on and off the pitch – a characteristic appreciated by both his teammates and supporters alike – and I am delighted to see him extend his time in red and blue.”

With Will Hughes’ new Crystal Palace contract now signed and sealed, the Eagles have retained a figure who embodies consistency, character, and commitment. His adaptability and leadership have made him a fan favourite and a dependable presence in the midfield engine room.

As Palace continue their journey under Oliver Glasner, Hughes’ presence offers a reassuring sense of continuity and experience in a team pushing for stability and progress in the Premier League.
