West Ham Secure £40m Deal for Mateus Fernandes
West Ham United have finalised a deal worth over £40 million to acquire Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes, marking a significant investment in the club’s midfield.
The 21-year-old Portuguese talent has been granted permission to undergo a medical examination in London, with the transfer expected to be completed shortly.
This acquisition positions Fernandes as the third most expensive signing in West Ham’s history, following Sebastien Haller (£45 million) and Lucas Paquetá (£51 million).

The move comes at a crucial time for manager Graham Potter, whose team has faced challenges in the early stages of the season.
Southampton, having secured Fernandes from Sporting CP for £15 million last year, are set to make a substantial profit on the midfielder. Fernandes has contributed four goals and seven assists in 46 appearances for the Saints, showcasing his potential in the Premier League.
In addition to Fernandes, West Ham are nearing the completion of a £17.3 million deal for Monaco’s Soungoutou Magassa. The 21-year-old French midfielder is expected to undergo a medical on Thursday, further strengthening West Ham’s midfield options.
These strategic signings reflect West Ham’s commitment to bolstering their squad and addressing areas of concern as they aim to improve their performance in the upcoming matches.
