Commuters and travellers across corridors of Britain are being advised to brace themselves for delays this morning as thick fog blankets several regions.
The Met Office has issued a fog warning, advising that visibility could drop to lower than 100 metres in some areas, particularly across the Midlands and the Home Counties.
Other corridors of the country may also see reduced visibility, so it’s stylish to allow redundant time if you’re heading out.
According to the Met Office, “Fog patches, mainly in rural areas and dense with visibility less than 100 metres in places, should slowly lift and clear this morning… Slower journey times with delays to bus and train services are expected. Delays or cancellations to flights [are expected].”
Fog Warning Sparks Travel Disruption Across Britain
Airports are on alert as the fog is expected to reduce visibility. Birmingham Airport, just outside the sanctioned Met Office advising zone, is nearly covering conditions.
Also, Bristol Airport and East Midlands Airport could see trip dislocation, although they’re slightly outside the alert areas.
Drivers are being urged to take extra care, especially on pastoral roads in the Home Counties. Major motorways, including the M1, M5, and M40, could be tricky during the morning rush hour.
The Met Office advises: “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, leaving extra journey time, or amending plans if necessary.
Make sure you know how to switch on your fog lights and check they are working before setting off on your journey.
Bus and train services, as well as flights and ferry travel, may also be affected; check for updates from your travel company, and follow their advice.”
Indeed, though the fog is anticipated to gradually lift by mid-morning, rain will follow later in the day. The wettest conditions are read for the western seacoast of Wales, as well as the corridor of Lancashire and Cumbria.
Temperatures will also feel colder than Tuesday, with highs around 8 °C or 9 °C in the Southeast of England, compared with 12.6 °C recorded in Slough, Berkshire, the previous day.
Flight and Travel Delays Likely Due to Foggy Conditions UK
The Met Office has highlighted the following areas under the fog warning:
East Midlands: Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Rutland
East of England: Bedford, Cambridgeshire, Central Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Luton, Peterborough
London & South East England: Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire, West Berkshire
South West England: Gloucestershire, Swindon, Wiltshire
Wales: Monmouthshire, Powys
West Midlands: Herefordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands Conurbation, Worcestershire
Trippers are being advised to stay streamlined with original transport information and rainfall reports before setting off.
Whether driving, catching a train, or flying, it’s wise to plan for delays and check updates from your trip provider.
For anyone heading out, flash back, laggardly behind, switch on your fog lights, and leave a plenitude of redundant trip time.
With foggy conditions and heavy rain forecast later, it’s better to arrive safely than risk an accident or miss your connection.
