UK September Weather Forecast: Surprise Heatwave Brings 25C Sunshine Before Autumn Chill
England is gearing up for an unexpected September heatwave as forecasters warn of a split in weather conditions across the UK.
After a record-breaking summer, many thought the hot spell was finally behind us. Not quite. The latest UK September weather forecast suggests another burst of warmth.
Parts of England could see temperatures climb to 25C this week, with counties in the east tipped to enjoy the best of it.
Where the Heat Will Hit?
Norfolk and Suffolk are first in line. On Wednesday, 3 September, both regions could see the mercury rise to a summery 25C. Surrounding counties won’t miss out either, with highs above 20C expected across:

For many, it’ll feel like summer’s last stand. But not everyone will be basking in the sun.
While England enjoys its warm reprieve, other parts of the country face a very different outlook. Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland are bracing for cooler air, rain, and the occasional thunderstorm. Some overnight lows could even dip close to 3C.
The Met Office has warned of a “mixed bag” in the coming weeks. From bright sunny spells to sudden downpours, Britons should prepare for contrasts as September unfolds.
Between 6–15 September, forecasters expect unsettled conditions: “Changeable weather conditions are expected across the UK during this period, with low-pressure systems tending to dominate the overall pattern.
This will mean showers or longer spells of rain will affect much of the UK at times. Some heavy rain or showers are expected in places, most often in the west.
Thunderstorms and hail are also possible, as are some spells of strong winds if any deep areas of low pressure form in the vicinity of the UK.”
Later in the month, things may calm down. From 16–30 September, the forecast hints at drier, more settled spells. Temperatures are likely to hover near average, with the possibility of another mild surge before autumn tightens its grip.
This summer won’t be forgotten in a hurry. With blistering highs over 30 °C and long hot stretches, 2024 now ranks among the UK’s warmest summers on record. In fact, all five hottest UK summers have happened since 2000, including 2018, 2006, 2003, and 2022.
For now, Britain finds itself split. England gets a late taste of summer. The rest of the UK readies for a soggy, blustery start to autumn.
So, keep the sunglasses handy, but don’t pack away the umbrellas just yet.
