Sydney Sweeney Ditches Glam for Grit in Christy Martin Biopic
Sydney Sweeney is almost unrecognisable. The “Euphoria” and “White Lotus” star has shifted her red carpet glamour for a tough, athletic look to portray boxing legend Christy Martin in a forthcoming biopic.
The film, directed by Australian filmmaker David Michôd, traces Martin’s trip from small-city West Virginia to breaking walls in women’s boxing. And Sweeney isn’t just wearing a costume, she’s fully converted herself for the part.
Sweeney went each in. Months of violent training, kickboxing, toning, and a strict diet helped her carve a body able to match Martin’s ferocity. She indeed espoused the prizefighter’s iconic curled brown hair.
Sharing a glimpse of the transformation on Instagram, Sweeney wrote, “Well, the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes, so here’s a little BTS from my film I’m working on right now.”

She added, “Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman—a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring.
Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honoured to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all.” She signed off with a teasing, “More to come soon.”
Christy Martin is further than a boxing icon. She was the first woman inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and dominated in the ring with an intrepid, aggressive style.
Outside the ring, her life has been a test of adaptability. In 2010, she survived a violent attack by her also-hubby, James Martin, who picked and shot her. He latterly entered a 25- time captivity judgment.
Despite these rigors, Martin’s story remains one of commission, a symbol of strength and determination for athletes and women far and wide.
The film is being directed by David Michôd, known for Beast Kingdom and The King, with a script co-written by Michôd and Mirrah Foulkes( Judy & Punch).
The product is handled by Anonymous Content, Yoki, Votiv, Fifty-Fifty flicks, and Black Bear Pictures.
The biopic had its first major screening at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation for its depiction of Martin’s remarkable trip.
After her metamorphosis for the part, Sweeney returned to the spotlight at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, presenting an award in a striking red Oscar de la Renta gown.
UK cult won’t have to stay long to see her full performance, the film hits playhouses on 7 November 2025.
Sweeney’s commitment to embodying Christy Martin demonstrates her versatility and passion for telling real, compelling stories.
Christy is shaping up to be an absorbing and inspiring watch, shining a light on one of boxing’s most influential numbers.
