Storm Amy Set to Batter UK with Fierce Winds: Greater Manchester Weather Update

Britain is bracing for Storm Amy this weekend, with gale-force winds and heavy rainfall expected to sweep across large parts of the country.

Greater Manchester will witness its own share of breezy conditions tonight, giving residents a foretaste of what’s to come.

The Met Office has issued a yellow rainfall warning for strong winds across wide swathes of the UK from 6 pm on Friday until 11.59 pm on Saturday.

While Greater Manchester hardly escapes the formal warning, locals should still prepare for wet and windy weather over the coming days.

Thursday starts dry and bright. “Forecasters expect a dry start to today (Thursday), with sunny intervals throughout the morning and lunchtime, as temperatures climb to 18C by 3pm.”

Shadows will be cast in the autumn, bringing light rain later in the evening. Heavy cloudbursts are anticipated to follow around 8 pm, continuing into the early hours of Friday.

Wind pets will gradually consolidate, with gusts in Manchester reaching 39mph by 11 pm. Conditions should ease slightly after night, with temperatures staying mild at around 13C.

Friday marks the appearance of Storm Amy, with the Met Office warning of gusts potentially exceeding 80mph in the worst-hit areas.

“Greater Manchester is not expected to see gusts anywhere near that speed, but forecasters say it will still be wet and windy later in the day and throughout Saturday.”

Residers can anticipate a cloudy launch to Friday, cheered by sunny intervals by late morning. Temperatures will peak at 17 °C before rain returns in the evening.

The heaviest showers are expected for around 6 pm – 7 pm, with wind gusts reaching 41mph by 11 pm. Overnight, rain will continue sporadically, with mild temperatures ranging near 15C at 1 am.

Saturday brings patient light rain and strong winds. Peak gusts in Manchester could hit 47mph in the early autumn, and temperatures will be cooler, beating out at 13C.
