Paris Jackson, the only daughter of the late King of Pop, has voiced sharp criticism against the forthcoming film Michael, calling out what she claims are misleading portrayals and false statements about her involvement.
Her comments followed shortly after actor Colman Domingo, who plays Michael Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson, praised her supposed support for the film.
During the amfAR Gala at the Venice Film Festival, Domingo told People magazine: “Paris and her brother Prince were very much in support of our film.”
He went on to describe her as “nothing but lovely and warm”, even saying, “It feels like that’s a nice way for us to be together.”
But Paris had other ideas. On Tuesday night, she took to Instagram, setting the record straight in a pointed post: “Don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had zero per cent involvement in lol that is so weird.”
She continued, saying that although she once read an early version of the script and gave feedback, her notes were ignored: “I read one of the first drafts of the script and gave my notes about what was dishonest / didn’t sit right with me, and when they didn’t address it, I moved on with my life.
Not my monkeys, not my circus. God bless and God speed.”
“The narrative is being controlled” – Paris hits out at Hollywood biopics
In follow-up Instagram stories, Paris elaborated on why she chose to walk away from the production: “They’re going to make whatever they’re going to make.
A big section of the film panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy, and they’re gonna be happy with it.”
She went further, calling out the Hollywood biopic formula as fundamentally flawed: “The narrative is being controlled and there’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of just full-blown lies.
At the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. Go enjoy it. Do whatever. Leave me out of it.”
Biopic clouded by controversy and rewrites
The film Michael, which is being produced in close coordination with the Jackson estate, has been in development since at least 2019. It’s already courted controversy, with reports suggesting the production has faced multiple rewrites and reshoots.
Puck magazine claimed that a third-act plotline involving one of Jackson’s accusers had to be scrapped due to legal complications.
A source close to the film has dismissed these claims: “The Michael Jackson biopic is not in total chaos. The inflammatory headlines about the movie halting are simply not true.”
Who’s involved in the film?
- Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, will portray the music legend in his first-ever feature film role.
- The cast also features Miles Teller, Nia Long, and Kat Graham.
- The film is scheduled for global release on 24 April 2026.
Despite the criticism, anticipation remains high among fans and industry insiders alike. But with Paris Jackson’s outspoken remarks, the debate over who gets to shape Michael Jackson’s legacy is clearly far from over.
