Novak Djokovic marches into the US Open semi-finals after a four-set win over Taylor Fritz

Novak Djokovic kept his Grand Slam dreams alive on Tuesday night, powering past American Taylor Fritz in the US Open quarter-finals with a 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The 38-year-old Serbian star, chasing a record 25th Grand Slam crown and a fifth US Open trophy, once again reminded the world why he remains one of the sport’s greats.

Fritz started brightly but soon found himself undone by mistakes at crucial moments. Early in the opening set, Djokovic seized a 5-3 lead and held firm despite facing five break points in a dramatic game that featured a bruising 25-shot rally. The world No. 1 took the set 6-3.

The second set had its twists. Djokovic raced ahead again, only for Fritz to claw back to level at 5-5. Any hopes of a turnaround, however, were dashed as Djokovic immediately broke back and sealed the set 7-5.

The American, roared on by the home crowd, showed grit in the third set, snatching multiple breaks and dragging Djokovic into lengthy service battles. Fritz finally found his rhythm and claimed the set 6-3.

But Djokovic, known for his resilience, wasn’t to be denied. With both players locked in on serve deep into the fourth set, the Serbian broke at 5-4, closing out the contest in trademark style.

For all his fight, Fritz will look back at the stats with regret. He managed to convert just two of 13 break point chances – a costly waste against a player of Djokovic’s calibre.

That defeat leaves Djokovic’s head-to-head record against the American at a dominant 11-0.

Despite battling a neck issue and a blister on his toe earlier in the tournament, Djokovic has dropped only two sets en route to the semi-finals. His relentless form is a reminder that even at 38, he is far from slowing down.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Jannik Sinner powered past Alexander Bublik in style, adding further intrigue to the latter stages of the US Open.

Up next? A blockbuster showdown with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz. The clash promises fire, drama, and a possible generational shift – but Djokovic isn’t done yet.

“Now, Djokovic will be moving on to face Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal.”
