Nationwide Offers £554 Bonus Boost as Households Urged to Check for Hidden Benefit Entitlements
Nationwide has launched a fresh warning, thousands across the UK could be missing out on hundreds of pounds each month, simply because they’re unaware of what they’re entitled to.
The building society’s latest initiative is turning heads. In just four weeks, over 2,200 UK households discovered they could claim an average of £554 extra per month. That adds up to a staggering £1.2 million in potential financial support uncovered through a new, free-to-use service.
The service includes both a self-guided online benefits calculator and a more hands-on telephone support option, where experts help users work out what they can claim. And here’s the best part, you don’t even need to be a Nationwide customer to use it.
Many are still in the dark about their rights. Billions in unclaimed benefits sit untouched every year. Why? Complexity. Confusion. Lack of awareness.
The most commonly overlooked benefits? Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Kathryn Townsend, Head of Customer Vulnerability and Accessibility at Nationwide, explained: “Millions of people across the UK are missing out on vital financial support they are entitled to simply because the system is too complex to understand and access.
Our partnership with Policy in Practice means more people, including those who perhaps can’t or prefer not to use digital services, can get the help they need to increase their income.
By offering the choice of an online process and a telephone call, we are hopefully making what can be a daunting and confusing experience that little bit simpler.”
The initiative is a partnership with Policy in Practice, a firm focused on making social policy work in real life. They’re backing the drive to make benefits access more inclusive.
Deven Ghelani of Policy in Practice highlighted just how urgent this issue is: “Every year £23 billion in benefits and support goes unclaimed because people don’t know what they’re eligible for, or they struggle to access online services.
Digital exclusion often goes hand in hand with wider social and economic disadvantage.
By partnering with Policy in Practice to offer an inclusive service, Nationwide is not only helping those most in need, it’s also meeting the growing expectation of customers and setting a benchmark for responsible banking.”
This move could be life-changing, particularly for older people, those with disabilities, or anyone struggling to navigate complex systems.
So, the message is clear. Check what you’re owed. Whether it’s online or over the phone, Nationwide’s new tool is there to help households find the hidden financial support they may have been missing for years.
A simple call could be worth over £500 a month.
