MAGA Conspiracies Surge Following Mormon Church Shooting in Michigan
A wave of speculation and political finger-pointing erupted almost immediately after a shooting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, a suburb of Flint, Michigan.
Police have confirmed very few details about the incident. At least one person has died, several others are injured, and the building reportedly caught fire.
The shooter was killed in a confrontation with law enforcement. Far-right figures were quick to offer inflammatory explanations.
“Hate against Christians is widespread in places like Michigan because the entire state is being taken over by Muslims who refuse to assimilate,” tweeted noted 9/11 Truther and influencer Laura Loomer, even though less than 3% of Michigan’s population identifies as Muslim.
“Beware, Michigan!” she added. “Only you can stop the Islamic invasion of your state before it becomes uninhabitable for Christians and Jews.”
Notably, incendiary rhetoric wasn’t limited to fringe voices. Former President Donald Trump shared a post on Truth Social calling the attack “yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America,” just hours after the tragedy unfolded.
The narrative of a “targeted attack on Christians” was amplified by others within pro-Trump circles. Among them were Gunther Eagleman, far-right filmmaker Robbie Starbuck, and conservative podcaster Bennie Johnson.
One commenter under Johnson’s post summed up the alarm: “I live up here in Michigan, and it’s never gotten up to where we are before now. This is starting to become a nationwide crisis.
If it turns out to be some crazy liberals, and honestly, I’d be shocked if it didn’t, someone has to deal with them militarily. These are terrorist cells.”
Others quickly linked the tragedy to the LGBTQ+ community or the Democratic Party.
“Mere Weeks after Charlie Kirk’s assassin, Tyler Robinson, raised in a Mormon home, was gunned down, attackers now target a Mormon Church in Michigan, leaving multiple shots,” wrote a self-described “Mom Fighting Marxists for Every American’s Right to Read.”
This is a Mormon Church.
Coincidence?
Mere Weeks after Charlie Kirk’s assassin—Tyler Robinson, raised in a Mormon home—gunned him down, attackers now target a Mormon church in Michigan, leaving multiple shot.

“Deep ties to the Trans Cult? Or something darker at play, Democrats?” they added.
Meanwhile, some social media accounts sought to rule out right-wing involvement entirely. “Patriots go to Church, they don’t shoot them up!” insisted Natsari Nazarite, identifying as a “Prepper” and a “TradCon.”
“This is a setup to frame MAGA conservatives. There is no way a conservative did this act of evil.”
Federal authorities have remained cautious. FBI Director Kash Patel refrained from disclosing any information about the shooter or their motives in a statement on X: “Violence in a place of worship is a cowardly and criminal act,” the statement read.
We are tracking reports of the horrific shooting and fire at an LDS church in Grand Blanc, Michigan. @FBI agents are on the scene to assist local authorities.

“Our prayers are with the victims and their families during this terrible tragedy.”
The incident has thrust the Mormon church into national headlines and reignited debates over safety, politics, and the role of social media in amplifying conspiracy theories.
