Martin Kemp Rushed to Hospital After Shocking Chainsaw Mishap: “Yep… Chainsaw”
Spandau Ballet icon Martin Kemp has given his fans a fright after a shocking accident involving a chainsaw landed him in hospital.
The 64-year-old musician and actor, best known for hits like Gold and True, was reportedly trimming a tree branch when things went badly wrong.
What started as a bit of DIY soon turned into a hospital dash, and a message that left his family speechless.
In a now-viral revelation, his son Roman Kemp recounted the ordeal on his You About podcast, alongside singer Tom Grennan.
“Friday night I’d just finished work and looked at my phone. Dad had sent a picture of his hand, all fingers strapped up.
All he writes underneath is, ‘yep… chainsaw.’ I was texting him, ‘what?!’ but he didn’t reply. My sister Harley was messaging too – no reply,”
Roman explained, clearly still stunned by his father’s nonchalant reaction.
When the family finally heard back, it turned out the former EastEnders star had been cutting down a branch when disaster struck. Three fingers were reportedly wrapped in thick bandages following the grisly mishap.
Roman couldn’t resist poking fun at his dad’s risky DIY habits.
“He’s 65, he’s got more than enough dough. Get a professional in – you can’t be doing that,” he joked. “My dad said, ‘Oh yeah, I picked it up by the blade.’”
Tom Grennan chimed in, likening the whole scene to “a horror film,” before joking that Shirlie Kemp, Martin’s wife, wouldn’t be thrilled at the idea of her husband losing his fingers.
“Yeah, because he wouldn’t be able to play guitar,” Roman laughed.
Despite the frightening incident, Martin is said to be recovering well and keeping his spirits high, though fans have urged the Spandau Ballet legend to steer clear of power tools in future.
This isn’t the first time the much-loved British star has had a health scare, but his light-hearted approach shows why he remains one of the UK’s most down-to-earth entertainers.
