Lando Norris finally captured a dream victory at his home Grand Prix, but the celebrations didn’t go entirely to plan. The McLaren ace secured his first-ever British Grand Prix win in front of a roaring Silverstone crowd, only to suffer an unexpected injury moments later in a strange turn of events.
The race itself was a thrilling showcase. Starting from third place, Norris kept his composure as chaos unfolded ahead of him. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen spun after a safety car restart, and Oscar Piastri — Norris’ McLaren teammate — was hit with a costly 10-second penalty. That handed Norris the perfect opportunity.
He grabbed it. From there, he led confidently to the finish. Piastri came in second, while Kick Sauber’s Nico Hülkenberg clinched his first-ever podium in his 239th Grand Prix. A landmark day for all involved.

But as Norris revelled in the moment, disaster struck. While carrying his trophy through the paddock, he was accidentally struck in the face when a fence gave way, sending a photographer stumbling backwards into him.
He immediately reached for his nose in visible discomfort and was quickly ushered back to the McLaren garage for a check-up. Luckily, the injury turned out to be a minor cut.
It’s not the first time Norris has sported a trackside nose injury. Earlier this season, he appeared at the Miami Grand Prix with a plaster over his nose, raising a few eyebrows.
Speaking after his latest mishap, Norris joked to PlanetF1: “Long story, but now I have two scars on my nose. One was lonely, so now I’ve got two. But it’s all part of the memories of Silverstone.”
Despite the strange incident, the day belonged to Norris. His long-awaited home win means the World Championship battle is now wide open, with just eight points separating him from Piastri at the top.
Reflecting on the emotional victory, Norris told The Guardian: “This victory is everything I dreamed of. Being on top at your home race is very, very special. Looking up at the fans and seeing them on their feet, your mind just goes pretty blank. I was just trying to enjoy the moment.
“These are moments that none of you guys get to witness. This is only something that I and very few Brits have achieved. It is a selfish moment, in a way, but so special and incredible because it is such a rare thing to feel and witness”.
“For me, it is my best win, maybe not the best way to win, but in terms of what it means to me, winning at home, it is very memorable. Apart from winning a championship, this is as good as it gets.”
A mix of glory and a little pain, Silverstone will no doubt hold unforgettable memories for Norris — scars and all.
