Hollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested following an alleged assault on a ride-share driver in Los Angeles, police have confirmed.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said the London-born Canadian actor entered a ride-share vehicle just after midnight on Monday in Hollywood.
Officers allege that Sutherland “physically assaulted the driver and made criminal threats.” Fortunately, the driver was not injured, and police have said the incident is under investigation by the Hollywood Division of the LAPD.
Sutherland was later released after posting a $50,000 bond (£37,300) and is expected to appear in court on 2 February 2026.
Who Is Kiefer Sutherland?
Sutherland is internationally recognised for his role as Jack Bauer in the Fox drama 24, and more recently as President Tom Kirkman in Designated Survivor.
He has won an Emmy Award for his performances and is the son of Canadian actor Donald Sutherland.
The actor has a history of legal issues in the United States. In 2007, he served 48 days in jail after being convicted of driving under the influence following a failed field sobriety test.
What Happened During the Incident?
According to the LAPD, the alleged assault took place at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. While the driver was unharmed, officers have confirmed that Sutherland made criminal threats during the incident.
“The incident remains under investigation. We urge anyone with information to come forward,” an LAPD spokesperson said.
Ride-share companies in the US, including Uber and Lyft, have safety measures such as emergency buttons and passenger-driver rating systems to prevent dangerous incidents.
Similar protections exist in the UK, enforced by Transport for London for licensed services.
Public and Media Reaction
The arrest has drawn attention across social media, with many discussing celebrity accountability and public safety. UK audiences have been following the story closely, reflecting ongoing interest in Hollywood stars’ legal issues.
