Jay Chou and Edison Chen Reignite ‘Initial D’ Magic with Surprise London Reunion
Jay Chou and Edison Chen just lit up social media with a surprise reunion that sent fans into a frenzy of nostalgia.
The two, who famously co-starred in the cult-classic 2005 street racing film Initial D, were spotted together in London, and their rare public interaction has stirred excitement across generations of fans who remember them as Takumi Fujiwara and Ryosuke Takahashi.
Chou, now 46, and Chen, 44, crossed paths at an art exhibition featuring Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara’s works. The duo posed in front of Nara’s paintings, and Chou later shared the moment on Instagram with a few cheeky Initial D throwbacks.
The post included two film stills and a playful dialogue mimicking their characters:
Ryosuke Takahashi: Would you like to join my team?
Takumi Fujiwara: Sure!
Ryosuke Takahashi: You transfer 300 yuan via WeChat first!
Takumi Fujiwara: …………
The “300 yuan via WeChat” line? That’s a nod to a viral meme from a prank voice message once misattributed to Chen. Chou clearly hasn’t lost his sense of humour—and neither have his followers. The post has already racked up over 296,000 likes and more than 226,000 shares as of July 6.
It’s a moment fans didn’t know they needed. The original film, adapted from the Japanese manga of the same name, also starred Anne Suzuki, Anthony Wong, and Shawn Yue. But it was Chou and Chen’s dynamic that anchored the story and made them icons in the racing flick genre.
Chou has been on the move. Fresh off wrapping the Hong Kong stop of his Carnival World Tour on 29 June, he made his way to London to catch the Wimbledon Championships with wife Hannah Quinlivan. Chen, coincidentally—or perhaps not—was also seen attending the tennis tournament.
Their London meetup wasn’t the only headline involving Chou this week. Just days earlier, on 2 July, he was seen with legendary director Stephen Chow.
The photo showed Chou with one foot resting on a football—fueling rumours he may be involved in Chow’s upcoming film Women’s Soccer. The reference to Shaolin Soccer wasn’t lost on fans.
Back in December 2024, Chen had flown to Taipei to support Chou during his concert at the Taipei Dome. Clearly, the camaraderie between the two hasn’t faded.
From high-octane races in Initial D to art shows and tennis courts in London, Jay Chou and Edison Chen continue to surprise. And fans are here for it.
Stay tuned—because if this reunion is anything to go by, we might just be gearing up for more.
