Israeli Airstrike in Qatar Sparks Tensions Amid Gaza Talks
Pressures in the Middle East escalated sharply on Tuesday after an Israeli airstrike targeted a domestic emulsion in Qatar’s capital, Doha, killing five members of Hamas.
The attack came as representatives from Hamas were in the midst of negotiating a fresh ceasefire offer with the United States aimed at resolving the ongoing extremity in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified the operation, calling it “a surgical, precision strike” in response to both the October 7, 2023, attacks and a recent deadly shooting in Jerusalem that left six people dead.
Qatar Condemns Attack, Warns of Consequences
Qatar’s leadership swiftly condemned the strike. Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani stated that Doha “reserves the right” to respond to what he called Israel’s “blatant attack.”
He also revealed that Washington informed Qatar about the assault only 10 minutes after it began.
US President Donald Trump later confirmed that his military had briefed him on the situation and that he instructed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to notify the Qatari government. However, Trump conceded that the warning came “too late.”
Hamas Claims Peace Talks Were Sabotaged
The timing of the attack raised serious concerns. Hamas accused both Israel and the United States of deliberately sabotaging peace sweats.

“We hold the US administration jointly responsible with the [Israeli] occupation for this crime,” the group said.
Qatar has been playing a central role in facilitating ceasefire discussions between the warring parties.
Recent incidents, such as the Israeli strike that killed journalists in Gaza, underscore the growing risks for civilians and those involved in mediation efforts.
White House Responds with Concern
The White House expressed deep concern over the incident. While it supported efforts to dismantle Hamas, it criticised the timing and location of the strike.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt remarked, “Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar…does not advance Israel or America’s goals.”
#US Democratic Congressman Jim McGovern condemned the Israeli occupation aggression against #Qatar, considering it a “flagrant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty & international law.

She emphasised that while eliminating Hamas remains a legitimate aim, this kind of action complicates diplomatic resolutions.
Trump latterly expressed remorse over the operation’s prosecution, clarifying that it was Netanyahu’s decision and not his own. He assured Qatar that such an incident would not recur.
Qatar’s Emir Issues Stern Warning
Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also condemned the attack, labelling it an “ flagrant violation ” of Qatar’s sovereignty and transnational law.
He advised that similar conduct could destabilise the wider region and jeopardise ongoing political talks. “Qatar will take all necessary measures to protect its security and preserve its sovereignty,” he stated.
Despite the attack, Qatar affirmed its uninterrupted commitment to interceding peace, emphasising that it will not retreat from its part.
