The Heysham Optimisation Programme was a comprehensive effort to modernize ageing infrastructure. Delivered by Kiernan Construction, the project focused on three core areas:
- Digital Gate Operating System (GOS): Replaced manual entry with ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and interactive kiosks, allowing for seamless, pre-booked transit.
- Structural Reinforcement: Holcim UK supplied 4,500m³ of specialist concrete, including Strike early-strength mixes and steel-fibre reinforced surfaces, designed to withstand the heavy wear of articulated lorries.
- Trailer Park Reconfiguration: A total redesign of the storage areas to maximise space and improve the flow of incoming and outgoing freight.
