Manchester United have finally confirmed the signing of Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño, bringing the talented Paraguayan full-back to Old Trafford after months of anticipation.
The 18-year-old had agreed to join the club during the winter window but was forced to wait until his birthday in April to finalise the transfer due to age restrictions.
Leon, who quickly rose through the ranks at Cerro Porteño’s academy, became a standout performer last season. In just 33 senior appearances, the young left-back managed to notch up four goals—a rare feat for a defender.
United had their eyes firmly on him, and it seems the feeling was mutual. Leon has long been eager to pull on the famous red shirt. His determination? Unmistakable.
Speaking at the airport before his flight to England, Leon declared: “Everyone thinks I’ll go out on loan, but I don’t have that mindset. I’m going to kill it in the preseason and within one or two games, I’ll already be playing with them.”
His words reflect a fiery ambition. No fear. No hesitation. Leon is already laser-focused on breaking into Ruben Amorim’s first team. And now, it’s official—he’s a Red Devil.
Leon will be competing with the likes of Patrick Dorgu and Harry Amass on the left flank, adding depth and energy to Amorim’s squad.
Manchester United made the announcement through their website, saying: “Manchester United are delighted to announce the signing of exciting young defender Diego León, subject to registration.”
“The Paraguay youth international has joined from Cerro Porteño in his homeland.”
“The talented full-back has already played 33 senior games, scoring 4 goals, for his club.”
“Leon reached the age of 18 in April and as an emerging talent will be supported by our first team and the Academy whilst he settles into life in Manchester.”
“Welcome to United, Diego!”
Leon’s arrival adds to United’s youth-driven project under Amorim, as the club continues to build for the future. With his drive and confidence, Leon’s story at Old Trafford is only just beginning.
