€240,000 worth of herbal cannabis uncovered in joint Gardaí and Revenue operation
In a significant cannabis seizure in Dublin, authorities have charged a man and a woman after herbal cannabis worth €240,000 was uncovered in a coordinated operation on Monday.
The operation, involving Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), and the Coolock District Drug Unit, led to the seizure of approximately 12 kilograms of herbal cannabis.
The cannabis was found during searches conducted at two separate addresses in Swords, a north Dublin suburb. A man in his 30s and a woman in her late teens were arrested on the spot by members of An Garda Síochána.
- The man has since appeared before Balbriggan District Court earlier this morning (June 10).
- The woman, although charged in connection with the drug haul, was granted bail.
- She is scheduled to appear before the same court at a later date.
A Revenue spokesperson confirmed that the drug seizure forms part of a wider strategy aimed at disrupting criminal organisations involved in drug smuggling and distribution.
“This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations involving organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs,” the spokesperson stated.
Authorities are urging both the public and businesses to report suspicious activity. “If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding drug smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on phone number 1800 295 295.”
This Dublin cannabis seizure underscores the continued efforts by Irish authorities to tackle the illegal drug trade. The collaboration between Revenue and Gardaí signals a firm stance against organised crime networks believed to be behind drug importation operations.
Such seizures not only aim to intercept the flow of narcotics but also to disrupt the finances and operations of criminal groups operating across Ireland and potentially further afield.
