Transport for London (TfL) is planning to lower the speed limits on some of Bromley’s busiest roads, in a move aimed at boosting safety for motorists, cyclists, and climbers likewise.
Bromley Roads to See 30mph Speed Limit Reduction
If approved, the changes will see the speed limit on the A232 Croydon Road (between Longdon Wood and Holdylake Drive) and the A21 Farnborough Common/Hastings Road (between Park Avenue and Knowle Road) drop from the current 40 mph to 30 mph.
“These roads are currently classified as Greater London Authority (GLA) main roads,” TfL said in a statement.
The authority has emphasised that the adaptations are part of broader road safety measures across Bromley, targeting areas with advanced business volumes.
The proposed changes are included in The A21 and A232 GLA Roads (London Borough of Bromley) (30 M.P.H. Speed Limit) Order 2026.
As TfL explains, “The general nature and effect of the Order would be to impose a speed limit of 30 MPH.”
TfL Invites Public Feedback on Road Safety Measures
TfL is now calling on local residents and road users to share their thoughts. Objections or comments must be submitted in writing, clearly stating the reasons, and can be sent by post or email to TfL’s Streets Traffic Order Team.
Submissions should quote reference SN0/REGULATION/STOT/BS/TRO, GLA/2026/0003.
The deadline for feedback is 10 December 2025. TfL has noted that due to mongrel working arrangements, postal access may be limited, which could delay evidence of cessions.
Any objections may also be shared with other parties potentially affected by the proposed order.
Documents, including a full map of the affected roads, the order itself, and details of previous orders that would be revoked, suspended, or varied, are available for inspection on TfL’s website.
What does this mean for Bromley Residents?
In plain terms, this change is intended to make Bromley’s main roads safer for everyone, reducing the threat of accidents while encouraging smoother business inflow.
Original motorists are advised to start preparing for the new limits, and cyclists and climbers may profit from calmer business in these areas.
This offer forms part of TfL’s ongoing sweats to ameliorate road safety across London, with a focus on high-business zones and crucial commuter routes.
Regular updates on the plan and related Bromley business news are anticipated as the discussion progresses.
