Italian food enthusiasts, rejoice – the much-celebrated Big Mamma Group is set to unveil its latest culinary hotspot, the Barbarella restaurant Canary Wharf, this June.
Known for its dazzling décor, viral pasta dishes, and indulgent desserts, the group is adding yet another gem to its portfolio – this time with a stylish twist inspired by 1970s Italian cinema.
The new location will be nestled within the iconic YY Building in Canary Wharf, marking a bold move into an area typically associated with corporate suits and towering glass skyscrapers. Yet this addition promises to add a touch of flamboyant charm and Mediterranean flair to the heart of London’s financial district.
A Nod to Italian Cinema and Retro Glamour
Dubbed Barbarella, the new restaurant is expected to channel a vibrant ‘tropical jungle’ theme. Think chocolate brown silk walls reminiscent of their famous glossy dessert, a chromed lounge straight out of a retro film set, a mirrored glass bar, and an awe-inspiring three-metre-wide amber chandelier. “Bougie, or what?”
What’s on the Menu at Barbarella?
When the doors swing open in June, diners can expect to see the return of Big Mamma’s cult classics – including paper-thin Culatello ham and luscious Puglian burrata.
However, the Barbarella restaurant Canary Wharf will also introduce several exclusive additions:
- Caramelised Italian tomato tatin with a Parmigiano cream finish
- Buttered Cornish lemon sole
- A rotating daily selection of artisanal pizzas
And let’s not forget the wine. Guests will have their pick from 50 different Brunello wines, each sip a passport to the golden age of Cinecittà Studios – where cinematic greats like Roman Holiday, La Dolce Vita, and Gangs of New York were brought to life.
Sweet Treats and Instagram-Worthy Vibes
For those with a sweet tooth, the experience concludes on a picturesque note. A serene waterside terrace will serve house-made gelati in indulgent flavours like white chocolate, pistachio, and dark chocolate. Big Mamma Group reckons the ‘show is on’ – and Barbarella is ‘here to steal hearts.’
Social Buzz and Anticipation Builds
Food lovers are already expressing their excitement on social media. Instagram user @kristyjlewis called the launch “so exciting,” while @cooper_miniwoofie labelled it “delish” and added “can’t wait to try.” @susannah_crawshay kept it simple with: “bring it on!”
A Culinary Empire Expands
Since its inception in 2015 in Paris by visionary entrepreneurs Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux, Big Mamma Group has grown into a beloved European phenomenon. With 28 restaurants across Europe, the brand now includes popular London names such as:
- Gloria’s (Shoreditch)
- Ave Mario (Covent Garden)
- Jacuzzi (High Street Kensington)
- Circolo Popolare (Fitzrovia)
- Carlotta’s (Marylebone)
The Canary Wharf outpost will soon join this star-studded lineup. Much like the buzz surrounding the Barbarella restaurant Canary Wharf, another exciting new opening is making headlines — Twickenham’s beloved Rose and Lion pub is reopening after six years, bringing a historic local favourite back to life.
Beyond the UK, the group boasts locations in Paris, Lyon, Lille, Birmingham, Monaco, Brussels, Milan, Madrid, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Marseille, and Bordeaux, cementing their place as a force in European dining.
