A 21-year-old man has been arrested following a suspected arson attack at Keir Starmer’s home in north London, triggering a high-level police investigation. Authorities confirmed that three separate fire-related incidents are under review, with the suspect now in custody.
Suspect Held in Connection with Multiple Fires
The Metropolitan Police stated that the man was detained early this morning, suspected of committing arson with intent to endanger life. The alleged arson attack at Keir Starmer’s home forms part of a string of incidents, including fires at two properties linked to the Prime Minister and a nearby vehicle blaze.
Due to the high-profile nature of the target, counter-terrorism officers are heading the investigation. Scotland Yard is examining whether the incidents are connected and if they form a broader threat against public figures.
One of the fires occurred on Monday around 1.11am. The London Fire Brigade quickly responded, managing to control the blaze within 20 minutes. Police are also investigating a vehicle fire that took place on 8 May, suspected to be linked to the arson attack at Keir Starmer’s home.
Local residents were left shaken. A next-door neighbour shared: “It was a loud bang, what sounded like glass shattering. It was scary,” he said.
Another resident, 58, said: “I got woken by a loud noise in the early hours of the morning. I looked out of the window and saw flashing lights and heard police sirens.”
He added: “There’s been lots of forensics outside all day. It seems like they’re taking it very seriously.”
This is not the first time Keir Starmer’s home has been the focus of attention. Protesters have previously gathered outside his residence, but this is the most serious incident to date.
Dan Nicholson, 36, described seeing a car engulfed in flames just days earlier. “I heard a loud noise and looked out of my window at 3am, and there was a car on fire. I called the police, and shortly afterwards, the fire brigade turned up. It was pretty dramatic. It was mad. It feels like it might be related to the incident this morning. It seems too much of a coincidence,” he said.
Starmer Thanks Emergency Services
Sir Keir Starmer issued a brief statement: Mr Starmer thanked “the emergency services for their work”.
Due to the live nature of the investigation, Downing Street declined to provide further comments. However, the arson attack at Keir Starmer’s home has now prompted renewed concerns over the safety of political figures.
Authorities are treating the incidents as potentially connected. With forensic teams still working at the scene, police have reassured the public they are doing all they can to ensure safety.
A police spokesperson confirmed they’re pursuing every lead related to the arson attack at Keir Starmer’s home, including forensics, witness accounts, and CCTV footage.
The arson attack at Keir Starmer’s home has shocked a quiet north London neighbourhood and stirred national concern. With a suspect now arrested and counter-terrorism police involved, this investigation is only just beginning. As the country looks on, the safety of its leaders—and the measures in place to protect them—are being scrutinised more than ever.
