In a significant move towards greater sustainability, serviced office provider Arena Offices has announced a £135,000 project to replace over 1,300 filament lightbulbs with energy-efficient LED alternatives across five of its business centres, including key sites in Poole and Ferndown.

Energy Efficiency at the Core of Business Strategy

The environmentally conscious upgrade forms part of Arena Offices’ ongoing commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and operating more sustainably. The project, which is already underway, is expected to be completed by the end of March 2025.

Once completed, the switch to LED lighting is projected to deliver annual energy savings of 53,347 kilowatt-hours (kWh) — the equivalent of powering 16 standard lightbulbs continuously for over a year. The dramatic reduction in energy usage also aligns with broader UK goals for reducing emissions and promoting green energy transitions within commercial real estate.

Locations Undergoing the Upgrade

The lighting overhaul spans five Arena Offices locations, with sites in Poole and Ferndown among those benefiting from the modernisation. These locations are known for hosting a variety of businesses and startups, and the upgrade is expected to provide both environmental and financial benefits for tenants in the long run.

Martin Goodman, Arena’s facilities and supply chain manager, said: “LED lighting is the smartest option for most buildings. Offices use a significant amount of energy every day on lighting. By investing in the right kind, they can save an enormous amount in the long run.”

Arena Offices will be working in collaboration with Harveys Electrical and JDB Electrical to carry out the lighting refit.

Sharron Domanska, managing director of Arena Offices, said, “This project is such a great way to start 2025 and set the tone for the rest of the year. Changing to LED lighting may seem like a small change in the grand scheme of things, but we’ll save a huge amount of energy each year”.

“It’s my responsibility to ensure we’re making sustainable and environmentally friendly choices wherever we can at Arena Offices. I want to create innovative office spaces that are always ahead”, he added.

Arena Offices operates across 11 locations, spanning Hampshire, Dorset, Basingstoke, Reading, and Poole.

This move mirrors a growing trend in the UK, where business parks and office providers are embracing green solutions. For instance, the Clean Energy Initiative at Grove Business Park showcases how commercial spaces are adapting to clean, renewable technologies to support a more sustainable future.
