A large stretch of the A127 in Essex has been closed for several hours after a serious incident close to the Rayleigh Weir junction prompted a full police investigation.
Officers say the road is likely to remain shut for quite some time, with the wheel of an existing vehicle at the centre of the incident. The check has led to heavy A127 detainments, especially for Southend-bound motorists.
Near routes similar to Rayleigh High Street and Rayleigh Road have also come backed up, as drivers try to escape the traffic caused by the Rayleigh Weir incident.
Numerous motorists have reported long ranges and slow progress, adding to what has formerly been a delicate morning for anyone travelling through this part of Essex.

An Essex Police spokesperson said, “We understand that this situation is causing disruptions, and we are asking motorists to find alternative paths and avoid this area where possible.
We anticipate the road will remain closed for several hours, and will provide updates as the situation develops.” The advice for now is simple: avoid the area if you can, as the Essex travel disruption continues to build.
