A beloved classic from the early 2000s is making its way back to screens, as CBeebies announces the return of Balamory with a brand new series set to air next year.
Fans of the original series will be pleased to hear that familiar faces are making a comeback. Julie Wilson Nimmo reprises her role as Miss Hoolie, Andrew Agnew returns as PC Plum, Kim Tserkezie is back as Penny Pocket, and Juliet Cadzow steps once again into the shoes of Edie McCredie.
The BBC revealed the reboot will blend much-loved characters with a new cast to deliver a “joyful mix of stories, comedy, songs and adventures”.
Joining the original cast are:
- Danielle Jam as scientist and inventor Ava Potts
- Carl Spencer as local vet Dr Ollie
- William Andrews as the harbour master
These new characters are expected to bring fresh storylines to the colourful island community, while staying true to the charm that made Balamory a household name.
Production will take place both in a Glasgow studio and on location in Tobermory — the real-life Scottish town that inspired the fictional Balamory setting.
Kate Morton, BBC’s children’s content commissioner, said: “It’s wonderful to see some of the original cast returning alongside new faces, creating a perfect mix of nostalgia and discovery for families to enjoy together.
This vibrant new series will delight both children and the grown-ups who remember it fondly.”
First airing in 2002 and running until 2005, Balamory quickly became a staple for young viewers. Its popularity extended beyond the UK, finding enthusiastic audiences in Europe, Australia, Hong Kong, Canada, and South Africa.
The new episodes will carry forward the show’s legacy of heartfelt, home-grown storytelling, rooted in a close-knit island community centred around a nursery school.
The BBC has commissioned two fresh series, each comprising 10 episodes. Lion Television Scotland is heading up production, promising a faithful but refreshed take on the much-loved children’s show.
Get ready for the return of bright houses, catchy tunes, and memorable characters. Balamory is back—and it’s ready to charm a whole new generation.
