Dundee United Secure Loan Move for Ghanaian Midfielder Isaac Pappoe from Ferencváros
Dundee United have completed the loan signing of Ghanaian midfielder Isaac Pappoe from Hungarian champions Ferencváros, securing the 21-year-old on a season-long deal. The highly-rated midfielder arrives at Tannadice with a growing reputation, despite a challenging season in Hungary, where he made just five appearances.
Manager Jim Goodwin expressed his excitement over the new addition, describing Pappoe as a “really exciting talent” and praising his high work rate and ability to drive play forward. Goodwin shared that the club had worked tirelessly to bring the player in, overcoming competition from several other interested clubs.
He believes the Scottish Premiership is the perfect stage for Pappoe to unlock his potential and contribute to Dundee United’s ambitions this season.
Pappoe’s journey to Scotland has been impressive. He began his career at Golden Kicks in Accra, where his performances earned him a call-up to Ghana’s U21 national team. At just 18, he made the bold decision to move to the Israeli side of Ashdod, gaining valuable international experience.
His career then took him to Switzerland with FC Aarau, where he delivered standout performances that caught the attention of bigger European clubs. During his time in Switzerland, he posted an impressive 87% passing accuracy, averaged more than five interceptions per game, and ranked among the league’s best for forward passes.
These achievements led to a move to Ferencváros on a four-year deal, but with limited playing time in Hungary, Pappoe is eager to find regular football in Scotland. He described last season as tough but valuable, saying he learned a lot from the experience.
Now, he’s excited to start a new chapter, embrace a different football culture, and make an impact in the Scottish Premiership.
Jim Goodwin is hopeful that Pappoe will follow the success of last season’s loan players, including Luca Stephenson, Emmanuel Adegboyega, and Sam Dalby, all of whom made significant contributions during their time with the club.
Goodwin is confident that Pappoe’s energy and determination will quickly win over the Dundee United fans and strengthen the squad for the challenges ahead.
The club and supporters will now eagerly await the Ghanaian midfielder’s debut, with high hopes that his arrival will bring added creativity and steel to the heart of Dundee United’s midfield.
