Police in County Antrim are appealing for witnesses after a shocking Co Antrim hijacking in Newtownabbey late on Saturday evening. The incident, which involved a handgun threat and physical assault, has left the victim shaken.
Just after 10pm on O’Neill Road, two men left their commercial premises and noticed two unknown individuals peering into their van.
Detective Sergeant Erskine of the PSNI said: “Shortly after 10pm, it was reported that two men exited commercial premises on the O’Neill Road and saw two males looking inside the van they had been travelling in.”
When the duo confronted the suspects, one of them rushed forward, demanding the van keys. The victim refused. The suspect then placed a handgun against his face, struck him on the head, and seized the keys before fleeing in the vehicle.

The PSNI report states the armed man is:
- Approximately 6 ft tall
- Of athletic build
- Wearing dark clothing and a balaclava
Detectives urge anyone in the vicinity of O’Neill Road around 10pm to come forward. Mobile phone footage, CCTV, or other observations could prove vital. Please contact the PSNI on 101, quoting reference number 1630 of 14 June.
